Mandriva announces Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 update
Paris, March 15th 2010 - Mandriva, Europe's leading publisher of Linux solutions, today announced the availability of the update to its Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 (MES 5), providing the delivery of technology enhancements to customers via the company's subscription model.
Mandriva offers existing clients and all business and administrations the opportunity to take advantage of the best of Linux (reliability, security, low admin costs) associated with the best of Mandriva Linux (easy to use, exclusive Mandriva tools and professional services) for the administration and integration of servers. In this update to MES 5, customers will receive a wide range of enhancements, including significantly increased virtualization scalability.
MES 5.1 integrates new features of virtualisation, among which the KVM technology (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) accompanied with tools of administration for a simple management in everyday life.
Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 (MES 5) also includes:
- Mandriva Directory Server (MDS) is totally integrated in MES 5. MDS enables some administrative work to be delegated to colleagues and offers users a directory of unique passwords independent of the platform being used. In addition, MDS incorporated a well-stocked API which enables the easy development of new modules and automates the everyday admin tasks;
- Developed to reduce boot-up time, the server's installation wizard enables Open Source bricks pre-configured by Mandriva for optimal efficiency to be quickly installed;
- MES 5 was designed to be modular and customised and can be easily used for the configuration of specialised servers. The Administrator can, for instance, configure an E-mail Server, or File and Print Server or a Directory Server. And to make the job even easier, it takes less than 15 minutes to install;
- On top of reducing operating costs and cutting down on time, MES5 limits hardware investment and reduces energy costs through its integrated virtualisation tools XEN and KVM. These virtualisation bricks enable MES 5 to envisage a real policy of server coordination.
"The update of MES 5 is going to allow our customers to take advantage of the last novelties, and to offer them an efficiency and a simplicity of management still increased. With the challenge to
carve costs out of IT budgets, the flexibility, reliability and simplicity of an Enterprise Linux
subscription has more value to customers than ever," said Damien Chrisment, head of project
MES 5.
MES 5 comes with not only corrective but also evolutive maintenance which allows users to take advantage of the latest distribution components. Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 (MES 5) is globally available today.
